Botox® Aftercare - KATHERINE CORBETT CLINICS

This injection treatment is becoming a more popular method for facials lines. Botox® relaxes the muscles that cause the lines and so gives a softer appearance. The horizontal worry lines on the forehead and the vertical frown lines (glabella) between eyebrows are very suitable. The "crows feet" lines around the eyes are the other areas which respond well.

Those not suitable for Botox® are those who:

  1. Are Pregnant or lactating
  2. Have muscle disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  3. Are taking Aminoglycoside antibiotics
  4. Are allergic to Botox® components or human albumin

Treatments last one to two weeks before being effective. The first lasts about three months. The second and subsequent treatments last three to nine months. The muscle power to the facial line is reduced but not completely eliminated.

The procedure

  1. Several tiny needle pricks into the muscle.
  2. No anaesthetic is required

Potential complications and informed consent to procedure

  1. Bruising at injection sites and possible temporary numbness
  2. There may be mild swelling for 48 hours. An ice pack may help
  3. Temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow (Ptosis)
  4. Temporary double vision (Diplopia)

Aftercare

  1. Do not massage the area as this may cause the toxin to spread to the eyebrow and eyelid muscle
  2. Do not lie down for 4 hours for the same reason
  3. Do exercise the muscles of facial expression for two hours afterwards to encourage them to take up the toxin
